Nel periodo natalizio parte della tradizione sta anche nel vedere i film che col passare del tempo sono diventati veri e propri cult di Natale. Non importa quante volte siano stati mandati in onda, perché ci sarà sempre tempo per film come Il Grinch e Una poltrona per due (cavallo di battaglia di Italia 1 da vent’anni a questa parte).
In generale si parla di commedie, più o meno spassose, da vedere con tutta la famiglia.
Tuttavia c’è una voce fuori dal coro che seppur drasticamente diversa rispetto allo stereotipo del film natalizio, non smette di appassionare grandi e piccoli e ha rivoluzionato un genere cinematografico.
Stiamo parlando di Die Hard.
La trama
Esattamente 30 anni fa usciva nelle sale americane il film di culto Die Hard, capostipite di una fortunata serie cinematografica con protagonista Bruce Willis, il “duro” per antonomasia. La storia è quella di un poliziotto, John McClane, che parte da New York per Los Angeles con lo scopo di riconciliarsi con la moglie Holly, donna in carriera che lo ha piantato e ha persino cambiato il cognome. Un compito già di per sé arduo, se non fosse che John dovrà anche fronteggiare da solo un gruppo di terroristi che attacca il grattacielo dove si svolge il ricevimento di cui è ospite in occasione della Vigilia, prendendo in ostaggio tutti i presenti, moglie compresa.
Isolato da tutti, disarmato (almeno inizialmente) e senza nemmeno le scarpe, John dovrà sconfiggere i criminali capeggiati dal temibile Hans Grüber, interpretato dal compianto Alan Rickman, così da salvare centinaia di ostaggi nella notte di Natale. L’unico a sostenerlo sarà un poliziotto del posto, Al Powell, che lo incoraggerà a tenere duro attraverso un walkie talkie. Il tutto correndo sopra vetri rotti del palazzo (da cui il titolo italiano Trappola di cristallo) e strisciando nei condotti dell’aria condizionata, come un vero Babbo Natale costretto a passare per il camino.
La nascita di un cult
Die Hard è a tutti gli effetti l’ABC del cinema action statunitense, girato con un ritmo indiavolato, delle ottime sequenze di azione e candidato all’Oscar in quasi tutte le categorie tecniche (miglior montaggio, miglior sonoro, miglior montaggio sonoro e migliori effetti speciali).
Il film deve gran parte del suo successo alle notevoli interpretazioni di Willis e Rickman. Il primo aveva fino ad allora recitato solo in film leggeri e in televisione, tant’è che non fu nemmeno la prima scelta del regista John McTiernan, il quale avrebbe voluto uno fra i più quotati Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone o Burt Reynolds. Ciò nonostante l’apporto di Bruce Willis è stato talmente determinante da farlo salire alla ribalta internazionale, portandolo a lavorare con registi del calibro di Quentin Tarantino, Terry Gilliam e M. Night Shyamalan. Sugli scudi anche Alan “Severus Piton” Rickman, che con il suo carisma ha dato vita ad uno dei più perfidi e sadici villain che siano mai apparsi sul grande schermo.
Quest’opera non è il tipico film leggero per famiglie, bensì un thriller teso e serrato, ironico e autoironico, capace di tenere incollati gli spettatori di tutte le età a 30 anni di distanza. Essa è il giusto compromesso tra divertimento e azione, riuscendo a non essere melenso come la maggior parte dei film che passano sotto le feste.
Die Hard: film di Natale?
Negli anni si è discusso molto tra i fan se fosse legittimo dire che Die Hard fosse o meno un film di Natale. A questo riguardo, la rivista Empire ha indetto un sondaggio tra i lettori su quali fossero i 30 film natalizi più belli: sondaggio che ha visto trionfare proprio il granitico Trappola di cristallo davanti a capolavori del calibro di Miracolo nella 34° strada e La vita è meravigliosa. Bruce Willis ha commentato in maniera plateale la questione:
«Die Hard non è un film di Natale, è un fottuto film di Bruce Willis.»
D’altronde questa è la risposta che avrebbe dato lo stesso protagonista John McClane, noto per essere lo sbirro tostissimo e coriaceo ma dal cuore d’oro. Infatti McClane, suo malgrado, si ritrova a rappresentare tutti gli ideali che caratterizzano lo spirito natalizio: la bontà, l’altruismo, il coraggio e il desiderio di migliorarsi per l’amore de suoi cari.
E comunque ci sono le esplosioni, le sparatorie e i cazzottoni con i cattivi, cose non di poco conto che sono sempre mancate ai film natalizi.
