Il Giappone è sempre stato un fenomeno particolare in ogni cosa: elettronica, cibo, cultura, religioni e in questo caso anche la musica. Sul fattore discografico possiamo dire che c’è sempre stata un’economia molto fertile per quanto riguarda le vendite di CD, vinili e cassette, apprezzando qualsiasi genere musicale esistente, dalla musica classica al metal più estremo, sia orientale che occidentale. Ma soprattutto la cosa bella di questo paese è la curiosità e l’ospitalità. Sul campo della musica “suonata” invece si può dire che anche la popolazione ha scavato, se non esplorato, molti territori, come noi occidentali, ma oggi vi voglio parlare di un genere che tutti noi abbiamo ascoltato più di una volta nella vita, ma che forse inconsciamente non pensavamo fosse un genere bensì una musica che era adatta solo per quel “prodotto visivo” ovvero… Gli anime (cartoni animati giapponesi).
Oggi vi parlo della City Pop.
“Yappappa’, Yappappa’, Echante’!”
Divenuta popolare negli anni ‘70/’80, proprio mentre l’economia del paese era alle stelle, e messa in primo piano con l’ascesa della vita urbana e lussuosa delle aree metropolitane giapponesi. Una musica adatta per i lavoratori e commessi dei centri cittadini e della nascente cultura imprenditoriale, per poi essere adattata anche nelle sigle (in particolare, quelle cantate in lingua giapponese) dei cartoni animati per l’appunto, che tutti noi conosciamo, tipo: Ranma, Inuyasha, Dragon Ball, Lupin, la mascotte per eccellenza Doraemon e tanti tanti altri, infatti il genere è diventato molto famoso a livello globale proprio in questo caso. Ma non solo, il genere fu inserito anche nel settore videoludico: Dragon Quest, Zelda (solo alcuni episodi) Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy eccetera.
Parlando della musicalità, o melodia della City Pop, possiamo dire che essa abbraccia molti generi musicali come il Funk, il Soul, il Jazz, la musica Disco, che nelle grandi città come Tokyo andava tantissimo all’epoca, ed in questo caso, se ci pensiamo bene… Pop può essere un immaginario collettivo che va a mirare non solo su questo aspetto, ma anche nella Fotografia, nei Manga (fumetti), nei Robot e affini, andando a creare il termine, sicuramente conosciuto, di pop art. Un concept fatto di iconografia consumistica e di profonda malinconia che riesce, tuttavia, a rimanere fresca nonostante il tempo e le rivoluzioni musicali degli ultimi 20/25 anni e dell’era post elettronica. Se vogliamo citare artisti di questo ambiente ci sarebbero: Tomoko Aran, Junko Ohashi, Minako Yoshida e Shintaro Sakamoto ma potremmo citarne tantissimi altri, visto che è stata una musica molto popolare e di grande impatto emotivo, ma anche economico.

Ormai non si parla più di questo genere. Oggigiorno se pensiamo alla società (e chi ha avuto anche il piacere di visitare il Giappone lo sa bene) ci accorgiamo che è un paese che cerca di rinnovarsi in fretta. Negli anime più moderni come ad esempio Naruto e Death Note si parla di sigle un po’ più rockeggianti, ma sempre con l’attitudine Pop, oppure orchestrazioni che variano in base ad una determinata situazione dei personaggi.
La City Pop si può dire che ha fatto da ponte a quelle che sono state, e che sono forse tuttora, le nuove tendenze musicali, come la Future Funk e la Vaporwave, mutando ogni volta di sonorità, stili, abbigliamento, impatti sociali e emotivi, nuove visioni delle cose, il mercato e chi ne ha più ne metta. Però, se pensiamo alle origini, tutto ebbe inizio con Tatsuro Yamashita per lo spot delle audiocassette Maxwell che pubblicizzava Ride On Time, il suo disco forse più famoso uscito nel 1980, e che veniva definito per tutti il punto di riferimento del genere. Ma non per questo il genere è stato dimenticato, anzi, ha avuto proprio una rinascita di recente grazie all’era dei Social. Infatti alcuni canali Youtube, hanno caricato album e playlist di canzoni che a livello fisico erano quasi introvabili sul mercato.
Ancora oggi riesce ad affascinare milioni di persone, a far rivivere sensazioni che sembravano perdute, ma, se proprio vogliamo dirla tutta, dispiace pensiero che alla fine sia stato solo un genere passeggero, e che non ha cercato di adattarsi negli anni a venire. In ogni caso, come sempre, vi menzionerò delle playlist e degli album, giusto per farvi un’idea. Buon ascolto!
