Un mese fa è uscito su tutti gli store digitali e in formato fisico il II album di una delle giovani band italiane più promettenti nel panorama nazionale. Li avevamo già incontrati per una chiacchierata qualche mese fa durante il Roccolo Park Festival e oggi torniamo a parlare di loro.
L’album si chiama Souvenir e loro sono i Cara Calma, ve lo raccontiamo in questo articolo scritto a 4 mani.
(Ma che cos’è questo, un episodio crossover?)
Il disco
Pubblicato da Phonarchia Dischi e Cloudhead Records, l’album è uscito lo scorso 8 marzo, anticipato dal singolo Rodica. Come il precedente lavoro Sulle Punte per Sembrare Grandi, la produzione è stata curata da Karim Qqru degli Zen Cyrcus. Souvenir è composto da 10 tracce, per una durata complessiva di circa 36 minuti, ed è stato registrato presso il Glotoneria Studio da Cesare Madrigali (chitarrista solista della band) e da Riccardo Frigoni. I Cara Calma sono Riccardo Taffelli (chitarra e voce), Gianluca Molinari (basso), Cesare Madrigali e Fabiano Bolzoni (batteria)
Si dice che il secondo album sia sempre il più difficile della carriera di un artista. Non a caso è proprio il momento in cui si hanno più cose da dimostrare, un seguito più nutrito e con delle aspettative, un messaggio da comunicare, voglia di sperimentare musicalmente e tanto altro ancora. Incanalare tutte queste spinte che muovono da dentro e da fuori non è facile, ma in questo caso possiamo dire che l’obiettivo sia stato pienamente centrato: Souvenir è un ottimo album Rock, meno ruvido e pesante del suo predecessore, ma comunque pieno di grinta e di carattere. Il sound strizza l’occhio al meglio della musica Alternative-Rock italiana degli ultimi anni (Ministri, Fast Animals and Slow Kids) ma possiede anche una sua spiccata personalità. I Cara Cara lo definiscono così:
«Questo lavoro è una lettera inviata a noi stessi che tra cinque, dieci, vent’anni anni e rappresenterà per noi un souvenir a tutti gli effetti, un ricordo a cui potersi aggrappare, una fotografia che ci ricordi com’eravamo e com’era per noi.»
Un album Rock dal sound maturo
I brani sono tutti dei papabili singoli radiofonici, orientandosi nei canonici 3/4 minuti ciascuno, ma sono tutti impreziositi da riff, groove e testi che li vestono come capi di sartoria. Nonostante si parli di una band ancora giovane, sia come età dei componenti ma soprattutto come storia, l’album risulta già un lavoro maturo, che esprime le difficoltà della propria età e del proprio tempo, il tutto con volumi esagerati. Da menzionare anche gli ospiti che hanno collaborato alla sua realizzazione prendendo parte ai brani: in Universo alcune strofe vengono cantate da Luca Romagnoli dei Managment (una volta noti come Managment del dolore post-operatorio), mentre Ivo Bucci dei Voina prende parte al brano Otto Ore (a nostro avviso, una bomba).
Parlando più strettamente del sound, possiamo dire che Souvenir è un album genuinamente Rock, con inserti Punk ed Emo e qualche sapiente strizzata d’occhio al Pop, con degli ottimi testi in italiano molto evocativi che si mescolano alla perfezione con la musica. I brani ruotano tutti per lo più intorno a degli ottimi riff di chitarra e dei solidi groove di batteria. Se il disco risulta già di per sé un ottimo lavoro, l’esperienza live è a dir poco esplosiva. I Cara Calma suonano dal vivo come se fossero in studio, ma con una grinta ancora superiore che coinvolge e stupisce il pubblico. Visto che ora stanno portando questo disco in giro per l’Italia, cogliamo l’occasione per invitarvi a sentirli alla prima data utile, ne vale assolutamente la pena.
La tracklist: il lato A
La traccia apripista, nonché primo singolo estratto che anticipa l’uscita dell’album, è Rodica. Si sente già dalle prime note che i quattro ragazzi bresciani ci danno dentro e questo pezzo mantiene un’energia e un coinvolgimento costante in tutta la sua durata.
“Voglio più fegato e meno cuore” è l’inno di battaglia della canzone seguente Sono Io O Sei Tu?, in cui il sound non si discosta molto da quella di apertura, ma è sempre un gran pezzo dove possiamo tranquillamente sbatterci la testa sopra.
A seguire troviamo In Tutti I Dettagli, il cui inizio ricorda vagamente i Blink-182, con tratti Pop-Punk e in altri molto Alternative, e possiamo già intuire che direzione prende la canzone.
Universo è la prima ballad che troviamo in Souvenir, plumbea, potente e arrabbiata come piace a noi. Tra l’altro è da menzionare la collaborazione per i vocals di Luca Romagnoli, del gruppo Hard-Pop Menagement.
Com’era Per Noi è la quinta traccia del disco ed anch’essa segue lo schema della ballad malinconica ed evocativa.
Il lato B
Si riparte in quarta con Otto Ore: qui si sente nuovamente l’energia e la carica delle prime tracce, inoltre anche qui troviamo una collaborazione, stavolta con Ivo Bucci dei Voina.
Tranquillo, ma dalle venature Rock, Il Mio Rifugio è un altro pezzo che dà del filo da torcere alle altre canzoni e può essere considerato un po’ la title track dell’album per i versi:
«Per ritrovare il mio rifugio / per onorare i nostri errori di ieri / per tornare dalla guerra / e riportare alla mia gente un souvenir.»
A non aver bisogno di una “seconda chance” per convincerci invece è il pezzo Seconde Occasioni, che si presenta in maniera egregia nelle sue sfumature Punk, ma senza mai correre troppo.
I Mobili è l’ultima ballad che troviamo in questa cofanetto ben confezionato che è Souvenir, dove il protagonista lotta contro gli sguardi indifferenti della gente e l’abbandono.
I ragazzi chiudono in bellezza in stile The White Stripes con l’ultimo pezzo Tu Sei La Guerra, esplosivo e furioso, in cui riecheggiano anche le influenze di Foo Fighters e Ministri.
I Cara Calma ce l’hanno messa tutta per presentarci un album maturo e così è stato. Tanti souvenir dove all’interno possiamo trovare dei ricordi, dei momenti, delle prese di posizione, trasformando tutto ciò in rabbia ma allo stesso trovando l’affetto verso le cose e le persone. Se il precedente album raccontava il desiderio di crescere ed esprimersi apertamente, a volte con toni forti, Souvenir è la realizzazione di questo processo: quattro ragazzi che oggi vivono il sogno e lasciano un monito per i se stessi del futuro, affinché non dimentichino mai questo momento.
